| The year of 1866 was a year of decision, not only for the President of the United States, but for each community, and for each citizen. This country had just ended it's bloodiest war in it's history, destruction of property was great, our financial structure was weak, our social structure was ruptured, and hatred was rampant, even our churches were split over the issues of north and south. Hunger, for the first time, in this great country was present. God has always used men of faith, men of great courage, and men with benevolent hearts. So then, the small community of Sullivan was not to be denied of this small group of men with faith and courage, to further the nation with brotherly love, relief and truth in our heart and not without setbacks, heartaches, and long days of labor, this brought into being the Sullivan Lodge No. 69 A.F. & A.M. |
