Worshipful Brother William L. Sanders has been kind enough to come up with "A History of Kirksville Lodge No. 105." Edited by Bro. Demond L. Baine, Senior Deacon
Kirksville Lodge No. 105 was organized May 25, 1864 with William T. Baird as the first Worshipful Master. Brother Baird was Worshipful Master until 1871.
There have been three addresses for the Masonic Temple in Kirksville: 119 1/2 W. Washington St. until 1910, 210 N. Elson St., 217 E. Harrison In 1872, the Lodge organized a building association which erected a three story brick building on the North-West side of the Kirksville town square. They dedicated it on June 24, 1873 and met on the third floor of this building until it was destroyed by fire on December 12, 1890.
After this, Kirksville Lodge met on the south side of the Kirksville Square until a building was erected on North Elson Street, just north of the original site. Kirksville Lodge met there and was joined by the Eastern Star. In 1919, a new Masonic Temple Association was formed and it was determined that a building exclusively built for Mason's was needed.
In 1930, the money for the building was accumulated amongst all the Masonic related bodies of Kirksville. Grand Master Sam L. Freet laid the corner stone for the building on April 1, 1930. Eight months later the building was completed and ready for occupancy. It is to be noted that Adair Lodge No. 366 also began meeting in the lodge in 1930 and continues to share the facilities.
This building still stands at 217 E. Harrison and is still the meeting sight for all Masonic & Eastern Star bodies in Kirksville.
